Supaclub On Sundays

Supaclub On Sundays at St Johns Church, Ainsdale

"Children are a gift from the Lord; they are His blessing." Psalm 127:3

We, here at St. John's Ainsdale, can say that we are truly blessed with the children we have the privilege of nurturing - not only in our Children's Group, Little Johns, Messy Church and Impact Xtra, but in our strong connection with the young people in our School and the Uniformed Organisations.

We have a nucleus of children who attend regularly and it is such a joy to see them grow in faith and begin to know Jesus as their very special Friend.

Over past months, the pattern of our Sunday morning service in the Church Hall has changed. We are now very much part of the new 10.30 Communion Service and the children's involvement is looked forward to and appreciated. This new service provides for our Children's Group to go out to the School Reception Class most Sunday mornings and enjoy time with their peers , enjoying creative activities associated with the theme of the Service. They return from their time together to share what they have been learning with the adult congregation and enjoy participating in the worship, and in the music with instruments and an action song.

  • On the 1st and 5th Sundays they return to the main service to join us for Communion
  • On the 2nd and 4th Sundays they return AFTER Communion and on the
  • 3rd Sunday we join with the Uniformed Organisations for a Parade Service - usually in the School Hall.

We explored the Bible story of his God created our world and then used our creativity to make some blossom collages.

Birthdays are celebrated during the service on the 1st Sunday of each Month with a sticker and chocolate from the "cake" (and also at the Parade Service ) After children have attended for six sessions they are awarded a prize to take home.

We are fortunate to have committed and enthusiastic Leaders who lead the Group on a rota basis. The children are always supervised by a leader who has DBS clearance.

One of the highlights of last year was receiving the Child Friendly Church Award. Sue Mitchell, the Diocesan Children and Young Families Missioner from the Cathedral and a good friend and supporter of our work at St. John's, came to present the Award in September.

It was a day of celebration and recognised the mission to children across our church and school, to include the Uniformed Organisations, Messy Church, Impact Xtra and Little Johns.

Our numbers continue to grow, as parents with young children bring their little ones to begin their journey of faith, but we are still looking for more volunteers who can also help us make provision for those older children, now at high school. This is a gap in our provision for the youth of our parish and one which we urgently wish to fill.

Our work with the children in our church school continues with "Supaclub on Mondays - an after school club for those in Year 6.

We will soon be starting classes in September for those considering Confirmation which this year takes place at Holy Trinity, Southport on 22nd November.

Please continue to pray for the young people in our community and for more opportunities to share the good news of JESUS and the blessings He can bring to their lives.

Linda Davies, Children's Work Co-ordinator.
