Roof Raisers!

Vicar Hits The Heights!

Just A Sample Image

When a large chunk of plaster fell off the ceiling of St John’s Church Ainsdale during 9.30 am communion in August, Graham Birch the intrepid vicar did more than climb a ladder to inspect the church roof.

On 16th September in order to raise money for repairs to the church he launched himself from a small platform high on the west wall of  Liverpool Cathedral and abseiled to the ground.

Graham has previously taken part in hang gliding and he rides a Harley Davidson so he is not afraid of a challenge.

‘I had to climb up a 250 step spiral staircase to reach a narrow 3ft platform on the outside of the cathedral and I abseiled down in one minute.’ he said. ‘The weather was fine though a little gusty and I’m glad I did it. It was a great experience.’

The stunt has already raised about £1,500 in sponsorship for the church and the fee paid has also benefited the cathedral.

It’s not too late to reward Graham for his courage by contributing to the Church Roof fund. Phone Graham on 01704 577760
