Announcement - March 2020

The Archbishops of Canterbury and York have instructed the Church of England that all regular public worship is suspended at present until further notice, and following on from the Government's announcement on 23rd March 2020, St John's church is now closed.

Church Offerings

Our church has to be self-funding and our offerings pay for its ministry in Ainsdale, the clergy here and it helps in poorer parts of the Diocese.

Money is not just a means of resourcing the ministry of our church. When Jesus said, 'where your treasure is, there your heart is also' he was teaching that what we do with our money both reveals and shapes our hearts. How we think, feel and act around money is about our personal discipleship as Christian people.

As with many organisations, we are already seeing a significant decline in our income therefore we pray and encourage you to continue to make your church offerings at this time by:

  • Standing order. This would very much be our preference. You do not need to visit your bank if you have internet banking. You can set this up directly from your account, quoting a sort code 16.32.10 and account number 13434558 , and the name of Parochial Church Council of St. John’s Ainsdale
  • Electronic transfer(s) from your bank account, again using the details above and quoting your full name as a reference
  • Cheque. If you would like to pay by cheque, please make your cheque payable to “Parochial Church Council of St. John’s Ainsdale “ and send it to our Treasurer, Ruth Wake, c/o 47 Kenilworth Road, Ainsdale, Southport PR8 3PH. Please do not make a special journey whilst the current “stay at home “guidelines are in place.

If you normally pay via the giving envelope scheme, unless you are using one of the above options, then please continue to fill your envelopes, save them, and take them back to church once the current restrictions have been lifted, or drop them into the vicarage if able.

Thank you very much for your continued support and please take care and stay safe.

With my love and blessings,

Rev'd Jane Morgan MBE

Vicar St John's Church Ainsdale, 708 Liverpool Road, Ainsdale, Southport, PR8 3QE

And the Parochial Church Council (PCC)

Once the current sitution changes, we will update our website and intend to revert to the pattern of services below:

We have four services each week, all of which differ in style of worship.
In addition to the Vicar and Readers, services are supported by an organist and choir, music group, a team reading and taking intercessions, and our children’s groups leaders.

Sunday 8.30am: Holy Communion (BCP)

Services are held in the chancel and attended by parishioners who appreciate a quiet and reflective service with no music

Sunday 10.30am:

Our main Sunday service is attended by all ages. It has a relaxed style with a mix of modern songs led by the music group and
hymns led by the organist Paul and choir.
In weeks 1, 2, 4 & 5 this service is a Family Communion. For part of this service the children go in to school for SupaClub on Sunday to enjoy themed craft, songs and discussion based on the reading. They return for communion twice a month when they share breadsticks and grapes.
Week 3 is a Parade Service (no communion) where Uniformed Organisations and their families join for all age worship.

All are welcome and after the service we meet for tea, coffee, buscuits and a chat.

Sunday 6.30pm: Evening Prayer (BCW)

Our services are held in the chancel. This is a congregation who value a more traditional service with Holy Communion and hymns accompanied by organ and choir

Thursday 10.30am: Holy Communion service (BCP).

Our midweek service has a close-knit congregation who enjoy a traditional communion service with no music followed by a time of
refreshments and fellowship.
