St John's Vision & Mission

The above has resulted in the following Vision for St John’s Church:

“Sharing God’s Love, Serving One Another”

The Mission of St John’s Church focuses on families and is:

“Demonstrating God’s love by supporting families throughout their lives: as children; as adults; as parents; and when they need someone to just listen, such as at times of bereavement.

This Mission involves every member of the Church, regardless of their individual circumstances. For some this may involve leading a course, preaching at services, or listening to other people’s concerns. For others, this may involve planning, fundraising, serving refreshments, or meeting for prayer. God has a use for all our gifts in supporting His Mission at St John’s.

In supporting our Mission, as a Church our activities and efforts will be focused on:

  • Letting God touch the lives of others by providing imaginative, varied, inspiring and entertaining worship experiences in particular around key School, Church and family occasions.
  • Helping and nurturing all those who wish to explore and deepen their relationship with God by providing opportunities for bible study, prayer and Christian fellowship in a safe, family friendly, non-threatening environment.
  • Providing practical support for children, adults and parents to encourage and support them through key events in their lives such as transitioning schools, weddings, becoming parents, sickness and at times of bereavement.
  • Equipping and supporting each other as members of the same Church family to be Christians in a modern world: at home; at work; with friends and in our local community.
  • Providing an accessible haven where everyone is welcome to escape from the daily busyness, discuss problems, or simply meet with, and be inspired by, God in quiet contemplation.

In doing so, we will be:

  • An active Church family where all members are accepted and valued for who they are, respect each other’s styles of worship, feel able and encouraged to be involved, and contribute to the whole life of the Church, including our Church School, with their talents and abilities, whatever form they may take.
  • Centred on God, letting Him lead us into the future He has prepared for us.
  • Growing in our faith as we serve our community in Ainsdale.

To support the new focus on Mission, the PCC has selected the following bible verse for 2014:

“Don’t just pretend that you love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Stand on the side of the good. Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honouring each other. Never be lazy in your work, but serve the Lord enthusiastically. Be glad for all God is planning for you. Be patient in trouble and always be prayerful.” Romans 12:9-12
