Although from Rev. Alfred Drew onwards the incumbent
was accepted as the vicar and was so called he was in fact officially a "perpetual
curate" until the Rev. John Morris was invited to be the Vicar by the Rev.
Hugh Wilkinson, the then archdeacon of Liverpool. Rev. Greep was accepted as
vicar when Ainsdale became a parish in 1906 but, sadly, was never well enough
to take services in this role.
